Citing a thriving population, the Michigan Department of Natural Resources issued 60 more elk licenses for its 2020 elk hunt compared to a year earlier. According to the Alpena News, hunters also have a wider area to hunt.
The DNR makes 100 tags available for early elk seasons in September and October and 160 for the final season that runs from December 12 through December 20. A five-day season in January will only take place if previous management goals come up short.
