Elk NetworkGear 101 – Eberlestock Technical Apparel

Eberlestock packs are known for rugged flexibility. They’re built around the idea of efficient performance and attention to the details. The Eberlestock apparel line delivers those same qualities. Built to integrate with Eberlestock packs and other gear, the apparel system consists of a baselayer, midlayer and outerlayer. This layering system is simple, adaptable and made to perform at the highest level. Eberlestock uses the latest in performance wear design and materials that won’t fail you when the chips are down, and the bulls are bugling.

The baselayer: The start of any comfortable hunt is your baselayer. A good baselayer should keep you warm while you sit in a blind and wick moisture away from your body when you chase a bull elk up a ridge. When I put on my baselayer, I want it to be warm and light, feel soft next to my skin and fit well. Eberlestock baselayers have all those qualities. They are ultralight and made from quick-drying, antimicrobial and stretch fabric like our Selway Merino LS baselayer, made of a Merino Wool synthetic blend. The Flatlock seams, and a drop tail make for a more comfortable fit. Thumbhole cuffs and a UPF30+ help you stand up to the elements.

The midlayer: A midlayer should be warm and breathable, with an excellent warmth-to-weight ratio. Eberlestock midlayers are super warm. Like the Payette Down Hoody, that has excellent 850+ fill hydrophobic down insulation and moisture transport to make it versatile and adaptable in any environment. It is lightweight and easy to pack up into a small space in your pack, yet still durable, with quilted ripstop fabric that helps prevent tears. Anyone who’s owned a down jacket knows how important it is to have durable outer fabric to prevent down insulation from floating out of various cuts and rips.

The outerlayer: Eberlestock outerlayers combine the latest fabric technology with designs proven by years of testing and experience in the field. These layers provide best-in-class protection from the elements. They are built to get it done with no extra bulk. For example, the Thunderbolt Mountain Parka has 133g PrimaLoft® Gold Insulation in the body and 80g in the arms and hood, and 10K breathability and waterproof rating with seam-sealing. High-cut hand pockets allow you to access them easily even when your hip belt is buckled. You can adjust the cuffs, the hem and the hood to keep even the worst weather out. The waterproof zippers and pit zips keep you dry and allow you to regulate your temperature. Quick storage pockets on the upper arms allow dry storage of a cell phone or other important small items.

Eberlestock is also adding to their line in fall 2022 with gloves, headware and socks coming out. (Greg, if you have any specific examples of hats or socks, give people a preview here). Dozens of new apparel and apparel accessories will be showing up as well. There are even new lifestyle colors in certain clothing items, so you have even more choices about how you want your gear to look.
