Every winter is tough on wildlife, but this past one seemed to be tougher on moose than any in recent memory for those animals near Jackson, Wyoming.
“We had more moose calls this winter than any I can remember,” said Kyle Lash, Wyoming Game and Fish Department warden. “I’d say we easily handled 30 dead moose between Jackson and Wilson this winter.”
Jackson Hole Valley racked up record levels of snow and as winter wore on, the phone at the Game and Fish office there continuously rang reporting dead or dying moose, everything from vehicle collisions to moose just simply being sick.
Managers are hoping for a productive spring as moose calves will soon be showing up around the valley.
