Wildlife officials in Montana confirmed that grizzly bears killed ten calves on a ranch near Dupuyer in the northwest part of the state. They are not certain if it was one bear or several since more than 12 were in the area.
“Given the number of bears and their increased level of activity, it’s really important that people and communities in bear country secure their attractants,” Gary Bertellotti, Montana Fish, Wildlife and Parks Region 4 supervisor, told the Daily Interlake.
The Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation maintains that predators have a proper place on the landscape but need to be managed. RMEF supports science-based management of all wildlife including wolves, elk, mountain lions, deer, bears and other species in line with the North American Wildlife Conservation Model.
