Elk NetworkCall on Lawmakers to Protect Kentucky’s Deer, Elk and Hunting

Below is a call-to-action email sent to Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation members in Kentucky.

To bolster chronic wasting disease (CWD) management and help prevent its spread in Kentucky, state lawmakers drafted House Bill 700

It would create a CWD surveillance zone and establish a 30-mile radius around positive detections. Additionally, it sets limits on the movement of captive cervids, such as farmed deer, and calls on captive cervid farmers to build a secondary fence 10 feet inside their facility’s perimeter as an added safeguard for wild deer and elk.
