The focus at a marathon race in northeast Washington quickly changed from the finish line to an aggressive deer that was staring down runners and attacking water station workers. Because of that, police with the Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife (WDFW) stepped in and put it down.
After the buck started chasing runners, a couple of volunteers at a water station tried to shoo it away. Instead, the deer attacked and gored both of them—one in the hand and the other in the leg. Both men received medical treatment at a hospital.
WDFW police shot and killed the animal for safety reasons. They allowed a local hunter to tag the animal and claim the meat.
